Belmore Falls

Fitzroy and Carrington Falls in Southern Highlands Region of NSW drew us to Robertson a couple of times in 2024, but we missed Belmore Falls for some inexplicable reason both the times! It clamoured for a dedicated trip of its own and we gave in. A 365-Km round trip getting us up close to the two-tiered falls seemed to be a tailored getaway for Labour Day long weekend.

And we set off…

The water of the creek feeding the falls was ice-cold but we had fun splashing through the serenely flowing shallow stream to steal a peak of the top of the falls - a refreshing break from driving! From the car park, quite a few viewing spots provided ample walking opportunities beneath the boughs of a diverse mix of trees of Morton National Park. Spring peppered vibrant yellow patches of endemic wildflowers like egg and bacon flowers, bossiaea, broad-leaved drumsticks along the pathways - all you needed were observant eyes and clean camera lenses!

We drove to Robertson and were stumped to find that The Big Potato, which once looked like one from brushed potatoes pack, has been overhauled to The Pig (Big) Potato! Colder spring in this region has preserved the thick cherry blossom blooms that paired impeccably with the pink potato.

Who’d have thought our last spot of the day, Alexandra Reserve, had so much in store! It wasn’t a place we planned to moor at with alacrity - our son ad-libbed and cajoled us for the diversion. But as we strolled around the water body, ducks, fish, coots, moorhens, heron, water dragon regaled us with their shenanigans at every step - some were swimming merrily, a few were chasing each other, while a handful were sort of racing for an invisible finishing line with no particular agenda on their mind. The most adorable part was watching a mommy duck shepherding her ten tender ducklings and it was ineffably pleasant watching them float.

We wrapped up the trip with a truckload of snacks and sweets from Harris Park before heading home. Here are the pictures to enhance the tale I just told!
