A Gift
A decade back, in IELTS Speaking Test, the examiner questioned what I thought about flowers as gift.
Without batting an eye I expressed my dissent on paying exorbitant price for a bouquet that’d wilt in a week, leaving no room for extension of the conversation.
Later I realised the levity of the situation and narrated this to my friends and family for sheer amusement on my naivety - a brazen non conformity with social norms; I could’ve communicated the same message in a subtler manner though.
I had no idea my son picked that up and actually appreciated my thoughts.
This afternoon he picked up a Lego set of roses as a gift to make our 24th anniversary memorable! He could’ve taken the easy way out - grabbing a fresh bunch of flowers from the florist right by his office. But he didn’t. After work, he bought the Lego set, skipped online gaming with his friends, and assembled the stunning red beauties for two hours straight!
The hangover from our celebratory NZ trip hasn’t watered down yet - my mind is often in the scenic flight hovering over the snow peppered mountains. So we didn’t do much to make the day special. But our son’s resolve added an unforgettable angle to our anniversary; we can’t thank him enough! God bless you dear one!
Here are the captures of a simple lunch, even simpler dinner (even this isn’t our usual 😛), and the prized present from our precious lad!
